Employment

Thank you for your interest in working at Minnesota AIDS Project. All applicants for open positions at Minnesota AIDS Project must submit a résumé and cover letter. Communications Intern

This position will provide participants with a broad overview of non profit communications. At the end of the internship, participants will have work samples for a professional portfolio and increased their network of professional contacts in the Twin Cities.

Desired Qualifications

Individual must have completed at least two years of college with a demonstrable emphasis in communications, public relations, journalism or English coursework. Candidates should possess strong writing skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to writing and editing articles for external publications targeted to donors, healthcare providers, media outlets, and volunteers
  • Write press releases, media advisories, fact sheets, and calendar advisories on an ongoing basis
  • Follow-up written media materials to secure placement in local print and broadcast media outlets
  • Supporting online communications efforts including social networking outreach
  • Develop and maintain media contact list
  • Participate in special event planning and implementation
  • Other duties as assigned

Timing

  • Minimum of 12 week commitment- opportunities available on an ongoing basis
  • Flexible schedule of 15-40 hours per week—because this is a project-based internship, work may be completed both on- and off-site as required in order to complete assigned tasks.  

This is an unpaid internship to provide experience in all aspects of nonprofit communications.

Special Events Intern

The Minnesota AIDS Project (MAP) has an exciting Spring Semester internship opportunity that will help you build your resume and skills while giving back to the community at the same time!

MAP’s mission is to lead Minnesota’s fight to stop the spread of HIV through advocacy, education, and services.

Special Events Intern duties may include:

  • Event planning and logistics support for Oscar Night Minnesota and the 2009 Minnesota AIDS Walk
  • Developing sponsorship leads and relationships
  • Communicating enthusiastically with event participants and volunteers
  • Brainstorming innovative ways to increase profitability of events by raising revenues or reducing expenses

This internship will last from January through June. We will develop a schedule around your classes but require a 15-20 hour commitment per week. Knowledge of HIV and a commitment to MAP’s mission are preferred but not required.

Web Coordinator

The Minnesota AIDS Project (MAP) is seeking a full-time Web Coordinator who will be responsible for maintaining MAP’s overall Web presence. The position will work closely with the communications director to support MAP’s mission of leading Minnesota’s fight to stop HIV through advocacy, education, and service. The successful candidate will have a broad set of technology, communication, and marketing skills and thrive in a mission-driven, team atmosphere.

The position will include the following responsibilities:

  • Strategically maintain the main agency Web site to ensure accurate and effective messaging. Continuously review all pages of the Web site and update content with new or revised information.
  • Maintain multiple specialty Web sites for agency programs and events.
  • Assist in the development of Web site redesign efforts, including overall design, pages and content.
  • Administrate Web domains and manage related vendor relationships.
  • Work with internal staff to drive content generation for all agency sites.
  • Improve site search, search engine optimization, and accessibility.
  • Administrate content management systems and train internal Web authors.
  • Assist communications staff in the development and implementation of programs and activities designed to meet specific communications needs of the agency and/or individual departments.
  • Provide valuable audience analysis and assist in targeting efforts.
  • Implement and direct the Minnesota AIDS Walk team fundraising page, which includes social networking features, database integration, and user registration in a Blackbaud NetCommunity environment.
  • Administer MAP’s Raiser’s Edge database.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Web Development, Communications (with technical emphasis or experience), or Information Technology.
  • A minimum of two years professional experience in Web design and development.
  • Must possess excellent writing skills, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and have the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat Professional.
  • Proficiency in coding XHTML, JavaScript, and CSS.
  • Experience with content management systems, broadcast email campaigns, and database applications.
  • Experience working with Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge is a plus; experience with Blackbaud NetCommunity is desirable.
  • Understanding of how to utilize both proprietary and open-source solutions.
  • Experience and comfort working with diverse populations.

Commensurate with education and experience along with benefits package
