MAP Volunteer Guidelines

Volunteers help MAP in many important ways, and we want your experience to be rewarding, innovative, and unique from other opportunities. Therefore, we have basic expectations for everyone who volunteers for Minnesota AIDS Project.
  1. We expect you to show respect and courtesy to MAP staff, volunteers, clients, and other guests, and to work with individuals regardless of race, gender identity, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, political affiliation, or disability status.

  2. We expect you to keep your commitment when you agree to help us with an activity, and to give advance notice if you are unable to attend.

  3. We expect that you will not be under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs during any MAP volunteer activities.

  4. We expect that you will not use your MAP volunteer role, resources, or time commitment to solicit personal information or make arrangements for your personal gain among clients, event attendees, or community outreach contacts.

  5. We expect you to complete whatever training is necessary for certain volunteer activities such as special events, transportation services, and internships.

  6. We expect that you will represent MAP to the community with accurate, up-to-date knowledge of HIV and its impact on society’s most vulnerable members.

  7. We expect you to make a good faith effort to resolve conflicts with fellow volunteers, MAP staff, and community members you encounter, with respect for the dignity of everyone involved.

  8. We expect you to give constructive feedback on how to improve MAP’s volunteer experience.
As a MAP volunteer, you play a meaningful role in our success. You should always expect MAP staff to adhere to the above expectations as well. Additionally you can:
  1. Expect to be welcomed and thanked by friendly, enthusiastic people who care about the health and wellbeing of our community.

  2. Expect to volunteer in an environment that respects and celebrates diverse backgrounds and identities, and welcomes individuals regardless of race, gender identity, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, political affiliation, or disability status.

  3. Expect to receive the training you need to do your job well.

  4. Expect meetings, trainings, and other activities involving MAP staff to begin and conclude at the promised time.

  5. Expect to be treated with dignity, respect, and gratitude for your efforts to help Minnesota AIDS Project.
