substance illustration   How Can I Get Involved in Substance Use Systems Advocacy?

1.   Join the AIDS Substance Abuse Partnership (ASAP)
ASAP was established in 1988 to promote HIV prevention, education and outreach activities for substance abusers in Minnesota. We are a multidisciplinary coalition of professionals from HIV and chemical dependency prevention, education and treatment programs, government and elected officials, as well as individuals directly impacted by the twin epidemics of HIV and substance abuse.

ASAP promotes good public policy and system changes through advocacy, education and networking. We support policies to integrate HIV education and prevention in substance abuse treatment programs and to increase the knowledge and understanding of the relationship between HIV and substance abuse.

ASAP meets monthly on the third Wednesday of each month from 1:30 to 3:00 pm at the Minnesota AIDS Project at 1400 Park Ave. S. in Minneapolis.

For additional information, contact Nicola Havens, 612-373-9166, nhavens@mnaidsproject.org.

2.   Subscribe to the Substance Use email information list
Keep informed on issues and news related to HIV and substance use and abuse. Members of ASAP receive this service as part of their membership. Contact Nicola Havens, nhavens@mnaidsproject.org to subscribe.

3.   Volunteer or intern in the systems advocacy department
We are always looking for volunteers and interns to work on a variety of projects. Contact Nicola Havens, 612-373-9166, nhavens@mnaidsproject.org, for more information.
