INTRODUCTION

The world first learned about a new disease 25 years ago. In that time, progress has been made in extending the lives of millions of people. Yet, millions die worldwide every year as well. Minnesota AIDS Project continues to work toward its vision of a world free of HIV. Our hope is that in the next 25 years this vision will be realized.

IN THE NEWS

25 Years of AIDS

On Monday, June 5 the world recognized the 25th anniversary of AIDS. On that date in 1981 the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued the initial warning about a disease that would later become known as AIDS. Since its debut, AIDS has become a global pandemic affecting people from all walks of life. AIDS has affected more individuals than any other epidemic in modern history. Kaiser Daily HIV/AIDS Report summarized the media coverage of the 25th anniversary of the first AIDS diagnosis.
