Minnesota's HIV Prevention Budget

Statement to the press - Sarah Rybicki, Midwest AIDS Training and Education Center Administrative Director

I am a public health social worker and I have spent my career working with health professionals to train them to deliver the best possible care to people living with HIV and AIDS. I have also spent many years working with community planners through the Ryan White process to distribute scarce resources to treat the HIV epidemic. We rely on our colleagues who implement scientifically based prevention to stop the spread of AIDS and the creation of new patients.

I am here today because without science our compassion and hard work are not enough. Evidence-based practice is key in treatment and prevention. Just as we would not allow limitations to be placed on the knowledge available to physicians to treat the HIV patient, we cannot allow limitations are not good science to be placed on prevention efforts.
