Federal Update: Compare Ryan White CARE Act Proposals with Current Law
The Ryan White CARE Act is the largest HIV-specific federal grant program in the U.S. It is the nation's care and treatment safety net for people living with HIV who have no other source of coverage or have coverage limits. The CARE Act was originally authorized in 1990 and was set to be reauthorized last year. Currently, there are several competing authorization proposals in Congress. The Kaiser Family Foundation has released a new side-by-side comparison that lays out the current law as well as key changes contained in the Administration’s reauthorization principles and each of the two Congressional bills that have been introduced in the current session of Congress. It presents the structure, eligibility for funding, distribution of funding, and drug formularies for each reauthorization proposal.

MAP supports reauthorization of the Ryan White Care Act that provides equity in services for low-income, underinsured and uninsured people living with HIV, regardless of their geographic location. In addition, MAP supports reauthorization principles that do not jeopardize HIV prevention efforts.
