MN-TAP

Minnesota Teens for AIDS Prevention

What is Minnesota Teens for AIDS Prevention (MN-TAP)?

MN-TAP 1

MN-TAP works to increase knowledge about policies affecting adolescent sexual health, increase knowledge of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, and engages teens as community leaders.

MN-TAP is a program of the Minnesota AIDS Project

What does MN-TAP do?

MN-TAP teens set program objectives at the start of each program year. In the past, MN-TAP members have accomplished the following objectives:

  • Organized “Youth Spreadin’ the Truth,” a community forum on sex education
  • Participated in a yearly Youth Lobby Day at the Capitol for sex education
  • Participated in the Minnesota AIDS Walk
  • Received MOAPPP Award, Minnesota Teens of the Year 2006, for their work on “Youth Spreadin’ the Truth”
  • Created a documentary on sex education titled “The Value of Honesty”

Who can join MN-TAP?

Any teenager 15—19 (sophomore to senior) years of age living in the Twin Cities metro area is eligible to apply. MN-TAP has between 8—12 members each year. Interested teens must complete a MN-TAP application, attend a weekend retreat (2 days, no overnight), and attend two meetings a month. Monthly meetings are held on thefirst and third Wednesday of each month from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. MN-TAP members must commit to attending all member meetings and a Lobby Day at the Capitol in the spring. The MN-TAP programming year begins in January and comes to a close in May.
