MAP Action Agenda
2007 STATE LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES

The Minnesota AIDS Project envisions a world free of AIDS. Our mission is to lead Minnesota’s fight to stop HIV through advocacy, education and service. Our Public Policy program strives to meet this mission through three main priorities:

MAP Priority: Advance Honest
HIV Prevention

  • Introduce legislation to establish a broad-based, basic HIV prevention and education initiative in Minnesota
  • Introduce legislation to establish standards for “routine” HIV testing, while funding the MAP AIDSLine as the statewide resource
  • Introduce legislation for an HIV prevention initiative targeting the epidemic in African-born communities
  • In partnership with the Sexuality Education for Life coalition, introduce legislation to establish comprehensive sexuality education standards
MAP Priority: Increase Access to HIV Services
  • Introduce legislation to improve Program HH reporting and community involvement
  • Support legislation to stabilize Program HH by alleviating program funding deficiencies
  • Support Department of Human Services’ administrative efforts to eliminate four-month waiting period for people moving from Program HH to Minnesota care
  • Support legislation to improve general health care access
MAP Priority: Protect Existing HIV Services and Rights
  • Protect existing funding and services for HIV prevention and care
  • Protect minors’ consent statute to ensure confidential access to sexual health services for teens
  • Oppose challenges to HIV confidentiality protections
  • Oppose challenges to rights related to sexual orientation
