Benefits Guide

Minnesota Supplemental Aid

Minnesota Supplemental Aid (MSA) is a state funded program that provides a monthly cash supplement to people who are aged, blind or disabled and who also receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Some people who do not receive SSI meet MSA guidelines. Recipients of MSA are also qualified for Medical Assistance and Food Support.

Eligibility

Typically you have to be receiving SSI payments in order to qualify for MSA, although some people who receive SSDI are also eligible. The asset limit for MSA is $2000 for a single person and $3000 for a couple in 2011.

How to Apply

MSA is administered by county human services offices. You can apply in person at the nearest County Human Service Department.
