Many people make assumptions about body modification, but what are the real facts behind the industry? Can people living with HIV safely get new body modifications? And what role do people in the body art field play in HIV prevention? Learn from Courtney Jane Maxwell, body piercer at Saint Sabrina's with over 10 years of experience and member of the Association of Professional Piercers, about how body modification relates to HIV. Courtney will share regulations for licensed piercers in Minnesota, code of conduct appropriate for piercers and body art shops, and policies for confidentiality and discrimination protection in the field.
She will also explore considerations for HIV transmission in body art studios, decisions to disclose HIV status to your piercer, and HIV prevention in the healing process of body modifications. This discussion will enlighten both providers and people living with HIV about the relationship between HIV and body modification and how people living with HIV should be treated throughout their piercing experience. This presentation is sure to break down stereotypes around the body modification industry and encourage a vibrant discussion about professionalism with clients living with HIV.
